Group Exercise: Identify the competences and the knowledge, skills and attributes to effectively manage performance.

11.00am Break (15 mins)
11.15am – 12.00SMART Goal setting/Strategic ManagementIntroduce SMART and give working examples.

The organisational goal pyramid/strategic management.

Individual Exercise: Write SMART goals/tasks for typical roles. Identify the resources and the standard required

12:00am - 1pmDelivering Performance FeedbackPresent the SAID model for delivering feedback.

Pairs exercise: For a specific situation, practice delivering feedback (positive and developmental) using SAID.

Lunch 1.00pm (1 hour)
2.00pm-3.00pmLeadership Styles/


Present on leadership styles.

Individual Exercise: Complete the leadership inventory to understand personal preferred style.

Group Exercise: In style groups, identify the components of each style and the pros and cons.

3.15pm – 4.00pmPlanning for PerformancePresent on planning and development.

Plenary Exercise: For a specific team, identify sample tasks and the resources required to support these.

Individual Exercise: For specific work related tasks, identify the knowledge, skills and attributes required. Match these to individuals to identify development opportunities.

4:00pm – 4.30pmConducting 1:1 Performance Management/ Supervision MeetingsPresent on key elements of meeting (preparation, agenda, etc).

Pairs exercise: Practice a brief portion of a 1:1 meeting (following on from previous scenario)

4.30 – 4.45pmPersonal Action PlanIndividual Exercise: Each participant prepares an action plan to include 2 SMART objectives for a 6 month period.
4.45 – 5pmCloseClosing comments/evaluation.
